Like the songs on this album, Daddy’s Let Me Get What I Want film tells the story of Tom, Erica, and Sterling. The film can be viewed in its hour long entirety, or as 10 individual chapters, each acting as a corresponding music video for the songs on the album. The footage was originally shot by students of James’ mother at the high school that James originally attended in Palo Alto, and the same one that inspired the poems that would eventually become these songs. Students were asked to develop a script and shoot footage based on each poem. Once the footage was shot, James and Tim used the footage as the raw material for the film. They brought in filmmaker Irene Su and video artist Beth Wexler to edit the film and to develop one of a kind video effects that helped construct the film’s narrative and overall aesthetic. The film has no "beginning" or "end" point, and works like a seamless loop. Let Me Get What I Want will be exhibited with the release of this album.
Daddy is James Franco & Tim O’Keefe and features guest bassist Andy Rourke formerly of The Smiths. Daddy’s Let Me Get What I Want album was released on March 18th, 2016. In addition to the album, Daddy has created a ‘music film’ that is a visual version of the entire record.
